National ID (NIN) Verification on Welile
Who this is for: everyone with a Welile account, and especially agents who want to withdraw earnings.
What you will get from it: your identity confirmed on your account, which is one of the requirements for taking money out.
Your NIN is the National Identification Number on your Ugandan National ID card — fourteen characters of letters and numbers.
What it is for
Welile moves real money between real people. Confirming who owns an account is what makes that safe: it keeps someone else from opening an account in your name, and it is one of the requirements before a withdrawal can be sent.
Where to enter it
In your profile or account section, in the identity or verification area. Agents are also asked for it while setting up the agent role.
What to have ready
- Your physical National ID card, so you can copy the number exactly.
- Your full legal names as they appear on the card — at least two names.
- The phone number registered on your Welile account.
How to add it
- Open your profile and go to the identity or verification section.
- Enter your fourteen-character NIN, exactly as printed on the card.
- Check your names on the account match the names on the card.
- Save, and complete any photo step the app asks for.
Copy the number character by character. A single wrong character is the usual reason a NIN does not verify.
What it does and does not unlock
Adding a verified National ID is one requirement met. It is not everything:
- Your payout phone number is verified separately.
- Your account standing is assessed separately.
- Agents also have collection and balance requirements.
See what you need before you can withdraw for the full set. Meeting one requirement does not clear the others.
If your NIN is already registered
One National ID belongs to one Welile account — the first account to register it. If you enter a NIN that is already in use, the app tells you so.
If it is your own ID on your own older account, contact support rather than opening another account. Two accounts on one identity puts both under review.
If you are a sub-agent without your own National ID card, there is an approved route: your parent agent can consent to your account being linked to their ID. See parent-agent ID linking. It is not a way to use someone else's identity — it is a supervised arrangement with their agreement and an operations check.
Keeping your details safe
Welile asks for your NIN inside the app, in your own account. Nobody from Welile will ask you to send your National ID number, your PIN or your password by WhatsApp, SMS or a phone call.
If someone does, they are not from Welile. See account and security.
