What You Need to Apply for a Welile Rent Plan
Gather these before you open the form. The form saves as you go, but collecting everything first turns a frustrating hour into about twenty minutes.
Before you start
An active Ugandan phone number. This becomes your Welile account and is where your messages go. Use a line you keep.
Your National ID (NIN). The fourteen-character number, plus the names exactly as they appear on the card. You also photograph the card itself.
A phone that can take photos, or somebody with you who has one.
Your landlord's name and phone number. Welile telephones your landlord to confirm the rent and the tenancy, so the number has to be one they answer.
Your LC1 chairperson's name and phone number, and their letter if you have one.
Your rent amount — what your landlord actually charges. Minimum UGX 50,000.
To know how you earn — daily, or weekly — because that decides how you repay.
Photos you will take
Three kinds, taken during the form rather than uploaded from your gallery:
- A photo of you. Face the camera, in daylight, nothing covering your face. See taking a photo that passes the check.
- A photo of your National ID.
- Photos of your home.
What you are asked during the application
Alongside the above:
- your full name, and the name on your National ID if it differs;
- what you do for a living;
- the language you would like your messages in;
- whether you use a smartphone;
- your house type and address;
- your village and district;
- your location, captured at your home;
- the LC1 chairperson's letter, if you have one;
- anything you want to add as a note.
If you do not have everything
No National ID yet. You cannot complete the application without one. Get the card first.
Your landlord is hard to reach. Sort this out before applying rather than after. An unanswered landlord call is one of the commonest reasons a request stalls.
No smartphone. Say so in the form and Welile contacts you by SMS instead. A Welile agent can also register you in person.
You are not sure of your rent. Ask your landlord and agree the figure first. Welile confirms it with them, and a mismatch stops the request.
