How Long Welile Takes to Review a Rent Request
After you submit, Welile checks your request before any money moves. Nothing is paid to your landlord until those checks pass.
How long it takes
It varies a great deal, and it is worth being straight with you about that.
Requests that move smoothly are often approved within a few days. Others wait considerably longer — weeks rather than days — usually because a review stage is waiting on somebody.
Do not commit to your landlord on the strength of a submitted request, and do not count on the money arriving by a certain date.
If your rent is due very soon, tell your landlord you have applied and that it is being checked — not that it is coming.
If your request seems to be sitting still
This is common enough that it is worth knowing what to do.
- Check your own phone is reachable and that you have not missed a call.
- Check your landlord has answered theirs. This is the single commonest hold-up, and you can fix it in one phone call to them.
- Chase the agent who submitted it. If you applied through an agent, your request is reviewed first by their supervising agent or service centre before it reaches head office. A request can sit there unnoticed, and a reminder to your agent often moves it.
- Contact Welile support with your reference if it has been weeks with no contact.
Chasing is reasonable. Nobody minds you asking where your request has reached.
What Welile checks
- You. Your name against your National ID, and your photo.
- Your landlord. Welile telephones them to confirm they own the property, that you live there, the rent figure, and the number the rent should be paid to.
- Your home. The address, the village and the location recorded with your application.
- Your LC1 chairperson. Confirming you belong to that village.
More than one team looks at a request, which is why it can sit at the same stage for a day or two.
The single most useful thing you can do
Tell your landlord to expect a call from Welile, and make sure your own phone is on and charged.
An unanswered call is the commonest cause of delay, and it is entirely in your hands.
The stages you may see
In plain terms your request moves through: submitted, then under review (which is several checks, not one), then approved, then funded, then repaying once your landlord has been paid and your schedule starts, and finally completed.
Two other outcomes exist: a request can be declined, and one can be cancelled.
Do not expect a separate label on your screen for every internal check.
If more information is needed
You may be contacted for a detail that was unclear — a phone number that does not connect, a rent figure your landlord describes differently, or a photo that cannot be read. Answer quickly; the request waits for you.
If a plan is cancelled after approval
A plan can occasionally be cancelled because the landlord payment was never completed in time. You are told by SMS if that happens, and nothing is owed by you — your agent can submit the request again.
If your request is declined
It happens, and it is not the end of it. The usual reasons are practical:
- your landlord could not be reached, or could not confirm the tenancy;
- the rent figure did not match what your landlord said;
- a photo or a document could not be read;
- details could not be verified.
Fix the specific thing and apply again. Speak to your agent, or contact support if you are unsure what was wrong.
Nobody can approve a declined request for a fee. Anybody offering that is not from Welile.
