Registering for Welile Through an Agent
A Welile agent can sit with you and complete the application on their phone. It is the same application, and the same checks follow.
This suits you if you do not use a smartphone, if you would rather have somebody explain the figures, or if you simply want help getting it right first time.
What the agent does
They fill in the form with you: your rent and repayment period, your details and National ID, your home and its location, your landlord, and your LC1 chairperson. Then they submit it.
What you have to be there for
Your photo is taken during the form. Live, with the agent in front of you. There is no way around this, and it is the main reason you and the agent have to meet.
Your own details. Your name as it appears on your National ID, your NIN, and your phone number.
Your agreement to the figures. Before submitting, the app shows your rent, the fees, your total repayment and your instalment. Ask the agent to read them out and make sure the instalment is one you can manage on an ordinary week.
Your home. The location is recorded at the property, so the agent comes to where you live.
What the agent cannot do
An agent helps you use Welile. They do not decide your outcome and they do not change what you owe.
- They cannot approve your request. Welile reviews it separately.
- They cannot change your fees or your total repayment. Those come from your rent and the period you choose.
- They do not need any money from you to apply. There is no application fee to hand anybody.
Nobody can move your request up the queue, and no Welile process asks you for cash to submit an application. If someone asks, refuse and contact support.
Welile will also never ask for your Mobile Money PIN.
How you know it went through
Welile contacts you on the phone number recorded in the application, so check the agent entered it correctly before they submit.
If you use a smartphone you also get a link to your own tenant dashboard, where you can follow the request yourself.
Ask the agent for the reference shown on their confirmation screen and keep it.
Your agent afterwards
The agent who registered you is usually the person you hand repayments to — see how to repay. You are not tied to them for payment, though: you can pay Welile directly with the merchant code, and your agent relationship is still recognised.
