How to Register as a Welile Tenant

You can register yourself on the Welile tenant onboarding page, or ask a Welile agent to do it with you. Registering and applying for your rent happen in the same form, so by the end of it your rent request is submitted.

Before you start

Have everything from what you need beside you — your National ID, your landlord's phone number, your LC1 chairperson's details, and your rent amount.

Be at home if you can. The form records your location, and it is quicker than going back later.

The six steps

The form tells you which step you are on. It saves as you go, so you can close it and come back.

1. How you earn

Choose daily income earner if money comes in every day — boda, market, salon, shop. Choose weekly earner if you are paid once a week.

This decides whether you repay daily or weekly, so answer it honestly rather than choosing what sounds smaller.

2. Your rent

Enter your monthly rent and choose your repayment period — 30, 60, 90 or 120 days if you earn daily, or 4, 8, 12 or 16 weeks if you earn weekly.

The screen then shows your rent, the access fee, the request fee, your total to repay and your instalment. Read these before going on. A longer period lowers the instalment and raises the total.

3. About you

Your name, phone number, National ID number and the name on the card, what you do, and your preferred language. You take a photo of yourself and a photo of your National ID.

Face the camera in good light — see taking a photo that passes the check.

4. Your home

Your house type, address, village and district, photos of the home, and your location.

5. Verification details

Your landlord — chosen from those already on Welile, or entered with their name and phone number — and your LC1 chairperson, with their letter if you have one.

6. Review and submit

Every answer is shown back to you in sections you can edit. Check your rent, your landlord's phone number and your instalment, then submit.

What happens after you submit

You get a reference number and a confirmation screen saying your request was sent. It also shows your plan summary and the four stages ahead.

The screen is clear that nothing has been paid out yet. Welile checks your details and comes back to you on the number you gave.

From there you can open your tenant dashboard to follow it.

Submitting is not approval

A reference number means Welile received your request. It does not mean your rent is approved or that your landlord has been paid. See review and approval.

If your phone number is already registered

Your phone number identifies your Welile account, so it can only belong to one. If it is already in use, sign in to that account rather than starting again — contact support if you cannot get in.

If your National ID is already registered

A National ID belongs to one account too. If the form says yours is already in use and it is genuinely yours, contact support. Do not use somebody else's number to get past the step.
