Welile Messages You Receive About Your Payments

Welile messages you after payments so you always know where you stand, even without a smartphone. Keep these messages — they are your record.

When your landlord is paid

The first message most tenants get. It welcomes you to Welile and tells you your rent has been paid and to which landlord, that your repayment starts tomorrow with the day named, your instalment and how long the plan runs, your total to repay, and your agent's name and number.

Your landlord and your agent are texted on the same event, so all three of you learn it at once.

Keep this one. It is the clearest record of what you agreed to.

If a plan is cancelled before your landlord is paid

Occasionally a Rent Plan cannot be completed because the landlord payment was not made in time. If that happens you are told by SMS that the plan could not be completed, that nothing is owed by you, and that your agent can submit the request again.

Nobody should ask you to pay anything on a plan that was cancelled this way.

After you pay the full amount

You are told how much was received, that the day's rent obligation is fully cleared, and what your balance now is.

It may also mention how your plan is progressing and how your rent access is growing.

After you pay part of the amount

You are told how much was received, what the day's amount was, and how much remains and will carry forward.

This is the message to read carefully — it tells you exactly what is still outstanding. See partial repayments.

After a payment is missed

You are told that the payment was not received, that it remains due, and that it carries forward. The message also tells you how to pay Welile directly instead of waiting for your agent.

It is a reminder, not a penalty notice. See missed repayments.

Other messages you may get

Paying directly. A reminder that you can pay Welile yourself with the merchant code instead of waiting for your agent, and that your agent relationship still stands.

Your dashboard. A link to your tenant dashboard, where you can see your payments and balance, if you use a smartphone.

Your rent access. Welile tells you when a good payment record has increased how much rent you can access, and encourages you to keep paying consistently.

Moving house. If you need to shift, Welile can support you — you are asked to tell Welile or your agent and to help arrange a new tenant for your current house.

Keep your messages

Your payment messages are your proof. Keep them at least until your plan is complete.

If a payment is ever disputed or does not appear, the message with its amount and time is what lets support trace it quickly. See a payment has not arrived.

How to tell a real message from a fake one

Welile will never ask you for a PIN or for money to a personal number

A genuine Welile message tells you what happened to your account. It never asks you to:

  • send your Mobile Money PIN or your password to anybody;
  • pay a fee to release, unlock or approve your rent;
  • send money to a personal phone number.

Pay only to the official merchant codes, or in person to your agent. If a message asks for anything else, it is not from Welile — contact support.

If you are not getting messages

  • Check the phone number on your Welile account is the one you use.
  • Check your phone has network and space for new messages.
  • Ask your agent to confirm the number recorded for you.
  • Contact support if they still do not arrive — you should not have to guess your balance.
