What a Welile Rent Plan Costs

Who this is for: tenants taking a Rent Plan, and agents explaining one.

What you will get from it: the ability to read the amounts the app shows you and know exactly what each one is.

A Rent Plan has three parts: the rent itself, a one-time registration fee, and an access fee for spreading the payments over time. Welile works the figures out and shows them to you before you agree to anything.

Where to see your figures

The amounts appear in the app as soon as the monthly rent and the repayment period are entered — during the Rent Request, and again on the plan itself once it is running. Those on-screen figures are the ones that apply to you. This page explains what they mean; it does not calculate them.

The rent itself

The full monthly rent your landlord charges.

Welile pays this to the landlord for you, so your housing is settled. It is the largest part of what you repay, and none of it is a charge — it is your own rent.

The one-time registration fee

A single administrative charge, paid once for the plan, not every month:

  • UGX 10,000 where the monthly rent is UGX 200,000 or less.
  • UGX 20,000 where the monthly rent is above UGX 200,000.

It covers the work of setting the plan up: checking your National ID, the photo check, the agent's visit and the location record, the verification calls to you and to your landlord, and the confirmation messages sent to you both.

The access fee

The charge for not having to find the whole month's rent at once.

It grows with the length of the plan. A short plan costs less in access fee than a long one, because Welile is carrying the rent for less time. A longer plan costs more in total but asks less of you each day — that is the trade, and it is worth taking a moment over.

Two things worth knowing:

  • Your agent's commission comes out of this fee, not on top of it. Nobody adds a charge for the agent when you pay. What you see is what you pay.
  • There is a minimum. On very short plans the access fee does not fall below a floor amount, so a one-week plan is not proportionally cheaper than a one-month plan.

How you repay

Choose the pattern that matches how money actually reaches you.

Daily

The smallest single payment. Suited to daily earners — market vendors, boda riders, salon and workshop owners, shopkeepers.

Most tenants choose this, because a small amount every day is easier to find than a lump sum at month end.

Weekly

One payment every seven days. Suited to traders who restock weekly, construction workers and other weekly earners.

Monthly

One payment per month. Suited to salaried people — teachers, civil servants, employees — who receive money once a month. Your landlord is still paid at the start, and you repay when your salary arrives.

What to check before you agree

Go through these with your agent, out loud, before confirming:

  1. The monthly rent — it must be what your landlord actually charges.
  2. The repayment period — how many days the plan runs for.
  3. The instalment — the daily, weekly or monthly amount you will actually pay.
  4. The total repayment — everything you will have paid by the end.
  5. Whether you can genuinely manage the instalment on a normal week, not your best week.

A plan you cannot keep up with costs you more than a plan you refuse. If the instalment is too high, ask about a longer period or a different repayment pattern before you sign up to it.

How to check where you stand later

Your plan in the app shows your balance, your next payment and your payment history. Your statement lists every payment recorded against it.

If a payment you made is not reflected, see a payment has not arrived.

Common questions

Does the fee change if I pay early? The plan's figures are set when it starts. Ask your agent or support what applies to your specific plan before assuming either way.

Is this interest? Welile is a rent facilitation platform, not a lender. The access fee is a charge for spreading your rent over time, and it is shown to you in full before you agree. See what Welile is and is not.

Why is my neighbour's daily amount different? Because the rent, the plan length and the repayment pattern differ. Compare plans, not daily amounts.
