How to Pay a Landlord from Landlord Float
Who this is for: Welile agents who disburse rent to property owners.
What you will get from it: a landlord paid, evidenced properly, and a Rent Plan that moves on to repayment.
This is the canonical guide to landlord payouts. Agent guides link here rather than repeating it.
Landlord float is a separate pocket
Landlord float is money allocated specifically for paying property owners. It is ring-fenced:
- Landlord float cannot top up a tenant.
- Operational float cannot pay a landlord.
They are kept apart so rent destined for a property owner can never be spent on something else by accident. See understand your balances.
When the money becomes available
Rent is released to you only once the Rent Plan has been approved and funded. At that point the amount appears in your landlord float and the request shows as funded in your submissions — see following a Rent Request.
Until a plan is funded there is nothing to pay out, however far along the review it is.
Before you start
- The Rent Plan is funded.
- You have landlord float allocated to you.
- You are at the rental property. Location is captured as part of the payout.
- You have a paper Welile rent acknowledgement receipt for the landlord to sign.
- The landlord has their phone with them, to read you the confirmation code.
Where to find it
Open the Money tab and tap the Landlord Float card. That opens the payout flow, your payout history and the audit records.
The payout, step by step
- Find the funded request. Choose Pay Landlord and pick from the list of funded requests.
- Pay the landlord. By Mobile Money (MTN or Airtel) or by handing over cash.
- Record how you paid. Enter the Mobile Money transaction ID, or the cash voucher reference.
- Capture your location. This must be done at the property. If you are within 500 metres of the property's recorded pin it passes automatically; further away, it is flagged for review by the landlord operations team.
- Upload the signed receipt. Photograph the landlord signing the paper acknowledgement.
- Enter the landlord's confirmation code. Welile sends a receipt number to the landlord's phone by SMS. Ask them to read it out and enter it.
- Confirm the payout.
What happens next
The amount is deducted from your landlord float, and the Rent Plan moves to repayment — which is when the tenant's repayment schedule begins and your collections on it start.
Your facilitation earning of UGX 5,000 is released once the landlord's confirmation code has been entered. It covers your transport, your time and the care the payout takes, and it is separate from registration bonuses and collection commission. If the code is still outstanding, the earning is still waiting — see Field Agent Commissions.
How to check the result
Open the payout history on the Landlord Float card. Each payout shows its record and whether its audit is complete. Your statement shows the money leaving landlord float.
Why the evidence is required
Three separate checks exist because a payout is the largest single movement of money an agent makes:
- Being there — the location check confirms the payout happened at the property, not somewhere convenient.
- The signature — paper proof the landlord received the money.
- The landlord's own code — confirmation from the landlord's phone, not from yours.
Together they mean a completed payout can be shown to have really happened, which protects you as much as it protects the company.
No single one of them is proof on its own. Being at the right location shows where you were, not that the landlord was paid. That is why the signed receipt and the landlord's own code are required as well.
Common problems
My location is flagged as too far away. The payout is not rejected — it goes for review by the landlord operations team. Complete the other evidence carefully, since that is what the review looks at.
The landlord has not received the SMS code. Check the number on the payout is the landlord's current number. Without their code the payout's audit stays incomplete.
The landlord has no smartphone. A caretaker may be designated for the property. Follow the arrangement recorded on the plan rather than paying whoever is present.
I do not have enough landlord float. Landlord float is allocated to you; it is not something you top up yourself like operational float. Contact your supervisor or support.
