Self Support and Existing Support on a Welile Note
Every promissory note carries a support mode. It decides whether the partner's money is pointed at specific places or handled by Welile.
Self support — you earmark the opportunities
The note is attached to specific opportunities: either ready-to-fund tenant rent plans or verified empty houses.
At least one is required. A self-support note cannot be created without attaching something.
One kind per note. Rent plans or houses, never a mixture.
Houses are held for seven days once attached. That is a real cost to everybody else, so only earmark what a partner has genuinely committed to.
Use it when the partner wants to know what their money is behind — which is most partners who ask questions.
Existing support — Welile handles the allocation
The note records the commitment without earmarking specific places. Welile puts the money to work against eligible opportunities.
Nothing is attached and no houses are held.
Use it when the partner does not want to choose, or when you are recording a monthly commitment that will be collected repeatedly rather than pointed at one house.
Which is which in the product
Most notes on the platform are existing support, and most of those are activated. Self-support notes are the ones most likely to be left sitting pending — which makes sense, because they are created ahead of the money arriving and they hold houses while they wait.
That is worth knowing before you create one: a self-support note you do not follow up is not a neutral act.
A note on names
You may hear these called Auto and Self-Managed. In the product the modes are existing support and self support, so those are the terms used here and the ones you will see on the form.
If somebody at Welile uses the other pair, they mean these.
What is the same either way
- Welile verifies the tenants and approves the rent plans. You do not choose who is eligible.
- Your earnings work the same way. The mode does not change your percentages — see what you earn.
- The partner's own terms — their rate, term and return method — come from their portfolio, not from the note or the mode.
