How to List a Rental Property

Who this is for: Welile Field Agents adding vacant rentals.

What you will get from it: a verified property on Welile's house directory, where tenants looking for somewhere to live can find it — and a listing that is ready to link when you register a tenant into it.

Listings are daytime only

06:00 to 18:00 East Africa Time

House listings can only be submitted during daylight hours. Attempts at night are blocked automatically.

The reason is the photos: a listing is meant to show the house as it really is, and night photos hide damp, damage and darkness. Plan your listing round for daylight.

Before you start

  • You are at the house, outside it, with your phone.
  • The house is genuinely vacant and available.
  • You have the landlord's name and phone number, and the rent they are asking.
  • It is between 06:00 and 18:00.
  • There is enough daylight left to photograph the outside, the rooms and the facilities.

Step 1: Property, rent, landlord and location

  1. Tap List House on the priority grid.
  2. Rooms and type. The room count and category — single room, double room, bedsitter, one to three bedrooms, shop or kiosk.
  3. Monthly rent. What the landlord is asking. The app shows the matching daily rate a tenant would pay.
  4. Landlord. Search by name or phone. If the landlord has no smartphone, register a caretaker — yourself or another designated person.
  5. Village and pin. Pick the village, then stand at the house, pin the location, and confirm the accuracy tick.

Step 2: Photos

  1. Tap to take a photo — captured live, not uploaded from your gallery.
  2. At least three photos. Take the front of the building from outside, the rooms inside, and the sanitary facilities. You can add more, up to fourteen.
  3. Review the thumbnails and retake anything blurred or dark.

Good photos are what make a tenant choose this house over the next one. A single dim photo of a doorway does the landlord no favours and earns you nothing.

Step 3: LC1 Chairperson, amenities and the checklist

  1. LC1 Chairperson. Select or register the village chairperson.

  2. Amenities (optional but worth doing) — water supply, electricity, fencing, parking, whether it is furnished. These are what tenants filter on.

  3. The preflight checklist. The app confirms every requirement before it lets you submit:

    • it is daylight hours;
    • the rent is at or above the minimum;
    • the landlord's name and phone are valid;
    • the village and district are identified;
    • the location is pinned and confirmed;
    • at least three daylight photos are uploaded;
    • the LC1 Chairperson is linked.
  4. Tap List House.

What happens next

The listing goes to the landlord operations team for verification. It is not earning anything and not visible to tenants until they verify it.

Once verified, it appears on the public house directory and you earn UGX 2,000 for the listing. If a tenant is later placed in that house and their Rent Plan is funded, a placement reward of UGX 5,000 to UGX 10,000 follows.

If you were recruited by a parent agent, they earn a separate amount when a listing of yours is verified — it does not come out of yours.

Amounts are set by the current agent programme, so check your dashboard against Field Agent Commissions.

How to check your listings

Use My listed houses on the Home tab to see your stock and which properties are still vacant. That list is where you start when a tenant asks you to find them somewhere.

Common problems

The app will not let me submit. Work down the preflight checklist — it names exactly what is missing. The most common blockers are fewer than three photos and an unconfirmed location pin.

It is after 18:00. Come back tomorrow in daylight. There is no way around this and no reason to try.

The landlord has no smartphone. Register a caretaker for the property.
